A couple of years ago I took my car to a workshop that specialized in the repair of exhaust pipes. The workshop is well known, but it has suffered a significant deterioration lately due to paralyzing and unresolved internal conflicts, family and company disputes, etc... It was already visible from the start and everywhere in the numerous cobwebs hanging from the equipment and machines in the back where the owners immediately allowed me to go with my restless camera...
The first day I went there it was very bright outside the workshop. As soon as I entered and walked inside around the place, I was struck by the entry of rays of light into the workshop through old windows and cracks and in its different corners, creating incredible effects and contrasts. What at the first glance of the general public can go unnoticed or disdained also, due to the poor condition of the facilities, which many times would lead us to flee the place. As always, when we stop and contemplate the place where we find ourselves more calmly, objects and situations appear that surprise and attract us.
In the end, I spent about three days touring the place with my camera, calmly and with great enthusiasm. Many abandoned or ignored things achieved a quasi-ghostly brilliance and presence. Piled exhaust parts and other objects that seemed dead and forgotten stood up and seemed to come to life. Every place is valid for our contemplative attitude. You don't have to go to India to find colors and contrasts...
